CIOMAL (Order of Malta) - Cambodia

‘Bike for Help’ contributed significantly to Ciomal’s continouing efforts to eradicate Leprosy in Cambodia. As the only organisation supporting the ‘Cambodian National Leprosy Program’ Ciomal plays a vital role in helping leprosy patients throughout this poor country.

Countrywide acitivities carried out by Ciomal and supported by Bike for Help are:




 
  1. National Leprosy Week Campaign 2002 aiming to increase the awareness of leprosy in the community.
  2. Supervision activities with regular visits to every province every 4 months.
  3. Loans to 20 former patients to start a small business or to buy livestock for farming

Hospital Kien Khleang (Ciomal’s centre for leprosy patients in Phnom Penh where patients come from all over the country)

  1. Training of students specialising in physiotherapy for leprosy patients
  2. The physiotherapy department has been reequipped and moved to a larger area
  3. Reintegration programm for former patients from the hospital
    103 cases of surgery (claw hand, drop foot, cataract, etc.)
